Ten Steps Guide for Newbies

Step Three: How to Choose Your Niche

I would say that this is the one of the most important step to be done. You have to choose the right place and the right time to enter that place with your info product - the ebook you are going to write.

Where to start from? Start from within, always. What is inside of you? If you are going to deliver something that should be something you know, you have passion to, you are good in it.

Make a research to discover those good things within. Let me help you here. List all your professional skills, hobbies, interests. List everything you know how to do. That could be something from your profession, from your college, school, outside activities, sport, hobbies. Look around yourself. May be there is something you did it or repaired.

Once you list all that stuff, ask your relatives and friends, to share with you what in their opinion you are good, bad, very good... Compile all that info and start to grade it. Use any scale you like and just grade it as per your desire and passion to be involved in this kind of activities.

You'll probably find 3-4 things you like the most. Once you are there, you know what you are good about.

The next step is to check what the world says about your passions. Are they in demand? Haw many people will be ready to buy your product? What kind of a problems they would like to be solved.

Remember you have to create something in the right place and the right time and the market has to answer those questions. If you spend a month or two in writing something, nobody cares about, you just wasted your time.

Let's see what we can do here. One of the first steps is to use Keyword Selector Tool from Overture. You can type your keyword (skill, hobby, profession) and see the outcome, showing how many searches have been done for the last month on that particular subject and all related subjects, too. This is a great way to see what is in demand on the market.

Another place to look for is Clickbank website. You can see there what the best selling topics are for the moment and see your passions on the list, too.

Then find the groups on the internet discussing the topic you are passionate about. Join their forums and see what they are talking about. Ask them what kind of questions they need to be answered.

By merging with like minded people you'll know soon what kind of problems they need to be answered. Listen carefully to them, because they are your potential customers. You are just discovering your own niche.

While you are doing all of the above, make a good habit to write down the ideas popping up into your head. Get a notebook, keep it closer to you and jot down the ideas as they come.

If you perform the above steps, at the end, you should be able to narrow down your 3-4 initial ideas to one. Yes, choose one topic and go ahead with it.
