How to make a comfy cushion from an old t-shirt
By Janice Wee
Is an old favourite t-shirt to worn out for you to wear anymore?
You could transform that t-shirt into a comfy cushion instead.
All you need is some scissors, needle and thread. And something to stuff your new cushion with. Another old t-shirt that would have been discarded would be fine as the stuffing.
Make sure the t-shirts you use are clean.
Step 1 Turn the t-shirt inside out.
The t-shirt has to be inside out when you sew the seams, so that the seams would be hidden when you turn it the right side up again.
Step 2 Seal up the bottom of the t-shirt.
Sew right across the middle of your t-shirt parallel to the hem, and back again to make sure that seam is strong.
Step 3 Seal up the sleeves
Sew right up at the place where the sleeve joins the rest of the shirt. You want a rectangular cushion, so start from where the side seams of the t-shirt meet the arm hole and sew that arm hole shut. Do that for both sleeves of the t-shirt.
Step 4 Turn the t-shirt right way around.
Pull the sewn up parts of the t-shirt tight through the hole on top where you would normally poke your head through when wearing the t-shirt. Put your hand through the neckline and pull up the t-shirt to invert it. Now you would have the excess material between the seam and the hem filling the t-shirt cushion slightly. If you want the cushion to be plumper, stuff another old t-shirt through the neckline.
Step 5 Seal the neckline.
Sew that neckline shut with needle and thread.
Now you have a comfortable cushion made up of your old tees. You can decorate this new cushion by embroidering designs on them, sewing on lace, sewing on felt to create new fancy designs on your cushion or even use a fabric marker to draw pictures. Have fun!
You might want to buy t-shirts to replace your old t shirts. About the Author
